At a prayer event that we recently hosted the word came that revival would be sustained with and through the Spirit of Unity within the body of Christ. I was blown away because I have written about this very thing two years before. I wanted to share what God had told me previously. God bless all who read this and pray that Father would put a burden in your heart to seek after him, to pray, and to live in a spirit of unity.
I am more now than ever sure that a Spirit of Unity is essential to sustaining the next move of God on this earth. This next Move of God I believe will see sons and daughters that have been far away from God called back to his midst. I believe God is raising up an army of young men and women who no longer want to live and die by the status quo but want their lives to mean something. In this series of post, I want to discuss sustaining this move of God.
I would like to define two different ideas for us before we get into the practical walk of sustaining the Move of God. Sustaining and Spirit of Unity
Psalms 133:1-3 says Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
This is not a one-time deal. This good and pleasant culture is birthed when it’s a lifestyle. This doesn’t come when we seek to have unity at a once a month event. This comes people and individual seek to dwell the rest of their lives together. In a dance of unity interwoven together. When this happens, God commands a blessing to those people. There is one thing that we must be mindful of that could hinder the blessings of God. We find a principle in Genesis 13 that must be discussed here when it comes to unity. Sometimes unity or togetherness cannot be sustained because the land cannot sustain God’s blessing. God will so bless his people who their dwelling place, its resources, and people, cannot sustain it. I believe this is what happened to a move of God in East Texas schools called NuGate. We could not sustain it because the place where we were as the leadership was emotional, spiritually, financially, or even church wise was not healthy enough to sustain the move of God. To receive the blessing and sustain we must have the capacity to take care of the blessing.
Ephesians 4:1-7 give us what I believe is a very descriptive definition of the Spirit of Unity. It says 4 I, therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
I love this passage because Paul breaks it down what it means to be unified.
But what is the Spirit of Unity? Paul continues saying,
We all have ONE Body, ONE Spirit, ONE Hope, ONE Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One God and Father of all. Did you get that? There is only ONE. When it comes to the word of God having different visions, different calls, different passions, anything different is false. I believe we can have different functions but not different ends.
When I hear someone say they are called to a different group of people I immediately sense of disunity. Why? These people immediately separate themselves from others.
1 Peter 3:8 says we are to have
We are to be like-minded in vision, mission, and purpose. We’re all on the same bus going the same direction. We should think alike, hope alike, and feel alike. I believe this type of unity only comes from the Holy Spirit, through a man, into the minds and heart of people
Romans 12:16 says we are to Live in harmony with one another, do not be haughty, to associate with the lowly, and never be wise in your own sight. We are to live with each other in harmony in all that we do. I love the definition of Harmony as a pleasing combination of elements.
Let us talk about the practical steps of sustaining a Move of God through a maintaining a Spirit of Unity. To Sustain the next Move of God we must be mindful of the word of God. The word of God is clear on the treatment of people.
Hebrews 13 says
I don’t know about you but I love list especially list that are clear and to the point. A list I don’t have to have a Bible degree to understand. If we the people of God would be mindful of these fifteen things I believe we can sustain whatever God gives to us. We can not keep a spirit of Unity within our bodies without treating people like this.
See how this works? If we would follow this simple list the next move of God would be able to be sustained longer, deeper, and farther than it has ever gone. A spirit of Unity would be destroyed if we do not know how to treat each other within the body of Christ.
Colossians 3:14 says Put on…
Ephesians 4:32 says
The amazing thing about God is he has given us ways to sustain what he has given us. As God expands your influence and brings more and more people into our environments let us remember these list. Let us remember that sustaining the move of God is more about the treatment of his people than the management of resources. Let us remember that God will give us more if we are able to sustain it.
Have you seen these principles in your own life? How has the treatment of people for good or worse affected your influence?
